Quick answer
No one can tell you the right price to sell Bitcoin at, and this page does not try. What you can control is the practical timing: cash out when the money has a job and a date, lock the rate before you send, split a large sale over several days if one bad day worries you, check how long you have held the coins for tax, and send when network fees are low. This is general information, not financial advice.
Nobody can tell you where it goes next, and this page will not guess. It covers the timing you can control when you cash out Bitcoin: the minutes of the sale itself, how much rides on one day, the tax clock and the fee clock.
It is general information, not financial or tax advice, and it never tells you whether or when to sell.
Already decided and only need the bank route? Bitcoin to a bank account has the steps.
How much can Bitcoin's price move while you decide?
A lot. One year after each of its last four peaks, Bitcoin was 32% to 82% below the top. That is the range of history, not a forecast.
How far below its peak Bitcoin was, one year later
The latest cycle, in dated steps:
- 6 October 2025Record high
Above $126,000.
- 5 February 2026A 16-month low
$60,062, more than 50% below the record.
- 30 June 2026The 2026 low so far
Just below $59,000, more than 53% down.
- 6 October 2026One year on
$85,453, 32% below the peak.
- 3 November 2026Today
About $81,000, roughly 36% below.
What does that mean for a cashout? Money you need by a certain date is exposed to every swing until it leaves Bitcoin. Here is plain arithmetic on $1,000 of BTC:
$1,000 of Bitcoin after a 10% fall
- What is left$900
- Lost to the move$100
- Value before the move$1,000
How does a locked quote protect you while the Bitcoin is on its way?
It fixes the payout before you send. With Zilligo, the rate is held for 20 minutes from the moment you create the order, and it covers the slow part too: once your payment reaches the network inside that window, the payout stays put even if the block takes longer.

Payout: $500.00 to your PayPal email
- Minute 0You create the order

- Minute 3You send 0.00626544 BTC

- Minute 14Bitcoin drops 3%
Your coins are now worth about $492. The payout does not change.
- Minute 22A block confirms it
Status: Payout on its way.
- Minutes later$500 lands in PayPal
Status: Payout sent.
Deposit, then sell on an exchange
- Coins count only after the exchange's confirmations
- Kraken credits Bitcoin after 3, about 45 minutes
- You sell at whatever the price is then
- A drop during the wait is yours
Locked quote
- Payout fixed before you send
- Held 20 minutes to reach the network
- A slow block does not change it
- A rise does not change it either
The lock has edges worth knowing. It cannot give you an earlier price, it does not cover your wallet's network fee, and a payment that reaches the network after 20 minutes is matched (within 24 hours) at the rate when it is matched, not the original one.
Want money that sits still for longer than 20 minutes? Some people swap to a stablecoin first, which adds a step, a cost and, in many countries, a taxable sale. The USDT guide covers that route.
Is it better to cash out all at once or in parts?
Neither is better in general. Splitting swaps one price for an average of several, so no single day decides the whole result, good or bad.
FINRA puts the trade-off plainly for the buying side: averaging smooths out timing risk but can trail a single lump sum. The same logic runs in reverse when selling. It lowers the chance of regret, not the chance of a worse average.
What does it cost? Zilligo's fee is a percentage, so the fees add up to the same total. Only the network fee repeats, once per part:
Total cost of $3,000 to Revolut, by how you split it
At November 2026's fee levels, splitting into three costs 23 cents more than one order. Ten parts on a congested day would more than double the cost, so fewer, larger parts are the cheaper shape.
Does how long you held the Bitcoin change the tax?
In some countries, yes. The US taxes a gain differently once you have held the coins for more than one year, while the UK uses a yearly allowance instead. Rules vary widely, so check your local rules or ask a tax professional.
| Where | The timing rule | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Held one year or less: short-term gain. More than one year: long-term gain, usually taxed at lower rates. The count starts the day after you got the coins. | IRS digital asset FAQ and Topic 409 |
| United Kingdom | No holding-period discount. Gains above the £3,000 annual allowance are taxed, and the tax year runs 6 April to 5 April. | GOV.UK Capital Gains Tax pages |
| Anywhere else | Some countries exempt long holdings, some tax every sale the same way. | Your tax authority or an accountant |
General information checked on 3 November 2026, not tax advice.
Example: US holding period, worked through
Hypothetical dates under the IRS rule that the holding period begins the day after you acquired the coins and must be more than one year.
In the UK, the date matters in a different way. Two sales either side of 6 April fall into two tax years, each with its own allowance, while two sales in the same tax year share one.
Note the trap: a swap from Bitcoin into another coin usually counts as a sale too. The IRS treats exchanging one digital asset for another as a disposal with a gain or loss.
Keep for every cashout and swap
- The date you bought the coins and what you paid.
- The date and time you sold, and how much BTC.
- The rate and the amount you received.
- The fee, on its own line.
- The order reference.
When is the Bitcoin network fee cheapest?
When blocks are not full. On 3 November 2026, 1 sat/vB reached the next block, about 11 cents for a simple payment. On a record day in April 2024, the average payment paid $128.45.
One simple Bitcoin payment, by the fee rate of the day
Is there a cheap day of the week? Activity often thins out when fewer businesses are moving coins, but news, a token launch or a market rush can fill blocks at any hour. A live check beats a calendar rule.
- Step 1Open a live fee page
mempool.space or your wallet's own estimate shows the next-block rate.
- Step 2Compare with your wallet
Its suggested setting should sit close to that rate.
- Step 3If the rate is unusually high
And the money is not urgent, waiting a few hours may bring it down.
- Step 4Then create the order
So the 20 minute quote starts only once you are ready to send.
The fee matters most on small orders, because it is flat while the order shrinks:
Example: A $60 Steam gift card, sent as BTC
Hypothetical. On $6,000 to a bank the same $3.38 would be a rounding error. See [Steam gift cards](/services/crypto-to-steam/).
How do you plan a cashout around the day you need the money?
Work backwards from the due date: when the money must land, how long the payout takes, and the day you will send. A plan made on a calm day stops the chart from making the decision for you.
Rent, a bill, a purchase. What the money is for.
In your own currency. Zilligo adds the fee on top, so that figure is what lands.
When it must arrive, counted in business days for banks.
Where it lands and how long that payout takes.
| Payout | Usually arrives after your BTC confirms |
|---|---|
| PayPal, Cash App, Venmo, Skrill, Neteller, Wise, Revolut, Monzo, gift cards, virtual Visa, top-ups | Minutes |
| SEPA and N26 | About 1 to 2 hours |
| Western Union, MoneyGram and Payoneer | Same day |
| ACH and Chime | 1 to 2 business days |

With a day to spare.
A rushed cashout
- Started the night before the bill
- Amount decided while watching the price
- Order created before the wallet is ready
- Bank payout on a Friday evening
A planned cashout
- Started with business days to spare
- Amount written down in advance
- Wallet funded, then the order created
- Payout chosen for the deadline
One more safeguard: keep the next few weeks of bills in ordinary money, so a bill never forces a sale on a day you would rather not sell. How big that cushion is depends on your situation.
Right before you press Send
- You know the job, the amount and the deadline.
- The payout arrives in time, counting business days.
- Your amount fits the payout's limit.
- You checked the live fee rate.
- You have noted the purchase date for tax.
- Nobody is hurrying you.
Now it is your turn
Bitcoin's price is the one part of a cashout nobody controls, and this page has not pretended otherwise.
The rest is yours: when the rate is locked, how much rides on one day, which side of a tax date you sell on, and what you pay the network.
Write those four down before you open a chart, and the day you cash out becomes a plan rather than a reaction.
Start a cashoutFrequently asked questions
Is there a best time to cash out Bitcoin?
Not one anybody can know in advance, and we make no price predictions. The practical timing is what you can control: a locked rate during the send, enough business days for the payout, a low network fee and your tax dates.
What happens if Bitcoin rises after I create my order?
The payout stays the same. The locked quote protects you from a drop and, in exchange, ignores a rise. If you have not sent yet, you can cancel and create a new order at the new rate.
Can I cancel an order if the price moves?
Yes, before you send the BTC: the order page has a cancel button. Once the payment is sent it cannot be pulled back, and the order goes ahead at the locked rate.
Does splitting a cashout cost more than one order?
Only by the extra network fees. Zilligo's fee is the same percentage at every size, so the fees add up to the same total. At 1 sat/vB each extra part adds about 11 cents. Each part must be at least $50.
Is a weekend a bad time to cash out Bitcoin?
The price trades every day, so a weekend is no different for the sale itself. The difference is the payout: ACH and Chime wait for business days, while PayPal and gift cards usually arrive within minutes.
Does swapping Bitcoin to USDT stop the tax clock?
Usually it counts as a sale. In the US, the IRS treats exchanging one digital asset for another as a disposal with a gain or loss, and many other countries do the same. Check your local rules.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is general information about how cashouts, fees and tax timing work. It does not tell you whether or when to sell. For decisions about your own money, speak to a licensed adviser or tax professional.
