Where your ETH sits matters more than gas now

For years the reason not to cash out on Ethereum was gas. That has changed. In early November 2026 gas sat near 0.05 gwei, so a plain ETH transfer from your own wallet cost a fraction of a cent. Gas still climbs when the network is busy, but for most sales it is no longer the cost that matters.

The trap now is location. A lot of ETH lives on layer 2 networks such as Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, zkSync and Linea, or on BNB Smart Chain, and all of them use the same 0x addresses as Ethereum. Your wallet will send to your order's address on any of them without complaint. Only a payment on Ethereum mainnet is credited.

If your ETH is on a layer 2 inside an exchange, withdraw it on the Ethereum network and you are done. If it is in your own wallet, move it to mainnet first. The official bridges of optimistic rollups such as Arbitrum, Optimism and Base hold withdrawals for about a week; a third-party bridge is faster for a fee, or you can route it through an exchange that supports both networks.

None of these is rare, and none is hard to avoid.

Sending on a layer 2

Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, zkSync, Linea and the rest share Ethereum's address format but are separate networks. ETH sent there is not credited to your order.

Choosing BNB Smart Chain because it is cheaper

Some exchanges list ETH on BSC with a low fee. It is a different chain and a different token; pick Ethereum or ERC-20.

Sending other tokens

Orders take ETH and USDT on Ethereum. USDC, wrapped ETH (WETH) and other ERC-20 tokens are not credited.

Leaving no ETH for gas

If you send your whole balance, the wallet still needs room for gas. Let it work out the maximum, or keep a little back.

Get the ETH details right

    Read the gas estimate before confirming

    Your wallet shows the fee in ETH and in dollars. If it looks high, a quieter hour usually brings it down.

    On an exchange, the label to pick is Ethereum

    It may say ERC-20 or Ethereum (ETH). Skip entries that say Arbitrum One, Base, Optimism or BEP-20.

    Count the exchange fee, not the gas

    Exchanges charge a flat ETH withdrawal fee and usually take it out of the amount. Add it so the full amount arrives.

    Small balance on a layer 2? Weigh the bridge

How much gas will I pay?

Can I sell other ERC-20 tokens?
