The short answer

To sell XRP for cash, create an order with your payout, then send the exact XRP shown to the order address on the XRP Ledger, with the destination tag your order gives you. The tag is required: without it we cannot match the payment and the funds can be lost. XRP settles in seconds, the network fee is 0.00001 XRP, and our fee is 1% to 2%.

About XRP

One address, many orders, one number that tells them apart

On most blockchains a service gives each order its own address. On the XRP Ledger every address is a permanent account that has to hold a reserve, so services receive XRP at a shared address and tell payments apart with a destination tag: a number attached to the payment.

Your order shows both, the r-address and the tag. The ledger delivers whatever you send to the address; the tag is what tells us the payment is yours. Leave it out and the payment cannot be matched to your order, and the funds can be lost.

Wallets and exchanges label the field in different ways: destination tag, tag or memo. Some wallets also offer a free-text memo, which is a separate field on the ledger. The number goes in the destination tag field.

The other XRP detail is the reserve. Every XRP account keeps 1 XRP it cannot send, plus 0.2 XRP for each object it owns, such as a trust line. If you want to sell everything, your wallet will stop short of that amount.

Avoid these

Check these before sending XRP

Each of these can hold up a payment or lose it. All of them are easy to prevent.

Sending without the tag

The costliest XRP mistake. An untagged payment cannot be matched to your order. Copy the tag from the order page every time.

Reusing an old tag

Each order has its own tag. A tag from a previous order points at that order, not this one.

Putting the number in a text memo

A free-text memo is not the destination tag. If your wallet shows both, use the field named destination tag.

XRP on another chain

Some exchanges offer XRP as a token on BNB Smart Chain. Only XRP on the XRP Ledger is credited.

Step by step

The XRP cashout, step by step

  1. 1

    Create the order

Choose the payout and amount. The order page shows the r-address, the destination tag and the XRP to send.

  2. 2

Fill in the address and the tag

Paste the address, then put the tag in the destination tag field (an exchange may call it tag or memo). Enter the exact amount.

  3. 3

    Paid after it settles

The XRP Ledger closes a new ledger every few seconds. Once your payment is in one, we send the payout.

Tips

Keep more of your XRP

  1. 1

Check the tag twice before you confirm

Compare it digit by digit with your order. A wrong number is as bad as no number.

  2. 2

Plan around the 1 XRP reserve

Your wallet keeps 1 XRP locked. Size the order to what you can actually send.

  3. 3

Add the exchange fee on top

Exchanges deduct a flat XRP withdrawal fee. Add it so the exact amount arrives.

  4. 4

    Sending money to family?

A cash pickup order asks for the recipient's full name and the pickup country. Check which countries each payout reaches before you order.

Questions

Common XRP questions

Something else? Contact support. Support usually replies within an hour.

How do I sell XRP for cash?

Create an order, then send the XRP it shows to the order's r-address with its destination tag. When the payment settles, we send the money to your payout.

What is a destination tag?

A number attached to an XRP payment that tells the receiver who it is for. Services that share one address use it to match payments to orders, and your order gets a tag of its own.

I forgot the destination tag. What now?

Contact support at once with your order reference and the transaction hash. Without the tag the payment cannot be matched automatically, and recovery is not guaranteed.

Is a memo the same as a destination tag?

On many exchanges, the withdraw field called memo or tag is the destination tag. In a wallet that shows both a memo and a destination tag, the number belongs in the destination tag field.

Why can't I send all my XRP?

Every XRP account keeps a reserve of 1 XRP, plus 0.2 XRP per object such as a trust line. That part stays in your wallet.

How long does it take?

XRP settles in seconds. Wise, PayPal and the virtual Visa pay out within minutes, SEPA in 1 to 2 hours and cash pickup the same day.

Which payout suits XRP?

For someone abroad, Western Union or MoneyGram cash pickup at 1.5%, plus their transfer cost, shown in your quote. For your own bank, SEPA or Wise at 1%. For spending, PayPal or the virtual Visa.
